Serafina’s 20th Anniversary

Customer Stories

To me Serafina has always been more than a place to eat. It’s a place of friends. From the owner, the staff and the many people I bump into over and over again, I can always count on great food with great friends whenever I go.

In the mid- 90′s I was on the board of the school of theology in the Diocese of Olympia (Episcopal) as we were interviewing candidates to become the new dean of the school. After a morning of interviewing and being interviewed, it was time for lunch and it fell to me to take the candidate to a local restaurant. I knew that he lived in San Francisco and was an accomplished cook so I suggested that we have lunch at Serafina. After a delicious meal and lively conversation around the possible position, he said that he thought if the position were offered to him, that he would accept. I was delighted to hear that and asked him what had helped him make up his mind. He replied about some of the aspects of the position which were very appealing to him…and then he said, “Any city which can support a restaurant like Serafina is a city that I would like to live in.” He was offered the position and was often at Serafina for a meal.

In 2006, we were already amply busy with two wonderful children, ages 5 and 2. We were now on the verge, this fateful January afternoon, of finding out if we were about to enter the most fearful moment of our 12 years together, my lovely wife and I. Could we be? We did in fact, find out this very afternoon, over drinks in Serafina’s bar, that we were going to be having Baby #3! Safely havened with a few of our Dining Family, we “found out” that we would be embarking on the wonderful, fear-provoking journey of parenthood – that our children would, in fact, in a few short months, outnumber us in our own household. We will soon be bringing our almost 10-year old daughter, Imogene, for her first “fancy dinner out” — of course at Serafina!
